Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Short answers to common questions about this tool.

What is an IP address?

An IP address is a numeric identifier assigned to your device on a network so websites can communicate with you.

What is the difference between a private and a public IP?

A public IP is visible across the whole internet, while a private IP is usually only used inside your own local network.

Why does my IP change when a proxy is on?

Because your request is sent through the proxy server, websites see that server's address instead of your real one.

Why is no country shown in my results?

We don't use any third-party database to guess your location, and only definite information available on the network is shown.

What is jitter in a ping test?

Jitter measures how much the round-trip time of data on the network fluctuates and how unstable it is.

Why do mobile users share the same IP (carrier-grade NAT)?

Mobile internet providers usually share one public IP address among many users.
