How do I go back to an earlier version of a page?

Restore a saved version or a named checkpoint from the Studio.

You will have the page's draft replaced with an earlier state.

Before you start

Restoring a version needs permission to write content and a plan that includes it. Restoring does not publish.

Steps

  1. Open the page in the Studio (Edit).
  2. Choose More actions → Snapshots.
  3. Under Recent versions, find the version and press Restore this version; or under saved checkpoints press its restore button.
  4. Check the page, then Publish if you want it live.

To make a checkpoint yourself, use Save checkpoint in the same dialog, with a name such as "Before redesign".

What you will see

"Revision restored. Your previous version was kept as a revision." The draft now holds the earlier content.

If something goes wrong

  • Only the newest 30 versions are kept.
  • Restoring a checkpoint overwrites the draft without keeping a backup of it. Save a checkpoint of the current state first.
  • Only the page body is restored; title, address and SEO are not.
  • Undo (Ctrl+Z) is for the current session only.
