The wording of the text messages the system sends by itself. This is the page's only screen, so everything is here.
Not available on Farsi installs
SMS Templates does not exist when the site's default language is Farsi: the menu entry, the page and its API are all hidden. Iranian providers send from fixed patterns, so there is no free text to edit. On those installs this page is simply absent.
What templates exist
Nine, in three groups:
- Store orders: order confirmation, order shipped, order cancelled.
- Bookings: booking confirmed, reminder, cancelled, rescheduled, and payment link.
- Invoices: refund recorded.
Writing a template does not switch SMS on
A template only supplies the words. Each feature decides whether it sends text messages (for refunds, the setting in Invoices → Settings), and the site needs an SMS provider that can send ordinary messages, set up in Site Settings → SMS. A line that can only send sign-in codes cannot send these.
The editor
Pick a template on the left (a search box covers the name, the group and the key, so you can search in English), choose the language, and edit the message body: up to 1000 characters, never empty. A small dot next to a template means you have saved your own wording in the selected language.
- Variable buttons (such as
{{orderNumber}}) add the variable at the end of the text. - The preview shows the message with sample values.
- Save is disabled until you change something. Reset to default appears only when you have saved wording, and returns to the shipped text; it does not blank it.
Languages and fallback
There is a separate version per language (English, Farsi, Arabic, French, Spanish, German); only English and Farsi have shipped wording. When a message is sent the system tries your saved wording in the recipient's language, the shipped wording in it, your saved English, the shipped English, and finally a built-in English or Farsi message. The language of the message is chosen by the sender (a booking uses the guest's language, other messages the site's default), not by the tab you are editing.
Variables
Each template lists its variables. A variable that is not on the list, or that the sender did not supply, becomes empty text; it is not sent literally. A typo silently removes words, so check the preview.
The segment counter is optimistic
The counter under the box treats every 160 characters as one segment, which is right for Latin text. Messages with Persian, Arabic or other non-Latin characters are sent in an encoding where a segment holds about 70 characters, so they use more than twice as many segments as the counter shows. Cost is per segment, so keep the text short.
Permissions
View opens the page; Manage saves and resets. The Admin role has both. Manage is a plan feature.
