How do I add a second language to my site?

Turn a language on, then let visitors reach it and start translating.

You will have a second language switched on, with its own addresses (/fa/...), ready to be translated.

Before you start

  • You need the site-settings Edit permission.
  • Your plan must include more than one language for the public site.

Steps

  1. Open Site Settings and choose Language & Format.
  2. In Languages, under Supported Languages, tick the language you want to add. The default language stays as it is.
  3. Press Save Languages.
  4. Put a Language Switcher in the header so visitors can choose (see "How do I add the Language Switcher to my site?").
  5. Translate the content you want shown in that language: pages (Pages list → Translate), menus, products, courses and so on. Each has its own How-to.

What you will see

The site now answers at /fa/... for the new language, and the translation editors list it. Nothing is translated for you: until you translate a page, the new language shows the default language's words inside menus and buttons that are already in the new language.

If something goes wrong

  • "Your plan does not include more than one language for the public site." The plan decides this. Ask the person who manages your plan to add it.
  • At least one language must stay ticked, and the default language is always one of the ticked ones.
  • The translation editors say "This site has only one language" until you have saved a second one.
