How do I let visitors switch to dark mode?

You will have given visitors a switch between light and dark mode.

Before you start

You need permission to edit content and the site-settings Edit permission.

Steps

1. Open Site Settings and choose Theme.
2. Find the Dark mode policy and choose Visitor chooses. (The other two choices force light only or dark only.)
3. Check the dark values of your colours under Foundations: only colours have a separate dark value.
4. Save.
5. Open the page builder for your header or footer and add the Theme toggle widget, then publish.

What you will see

The warning on the Theme tab disappears and visitors see the switch where you placed the widget.

If something goes wrong

• With "Visitor chooses" and no toggle widget, visitors get no switch at all. The Theme tab shows a warning until a widget is placed.
• Only colours have a separate dark value; fonts, widths and the rest are shared by both modes. Look at the site in dark mode before you announce it.
