How do I put the site in maintenance mode?

Show visitors a "back soon" screen, or a page you designed, while you work on the site.

You will have switched public visitors to a maintenance screen while signed-in staff keep working.

Before you start

You need permission to edit content settings, and the content feature must be in your plan.

Steps

  1. Open Site Settings and choose Advanced, then find Maintenance.
  2. Under What to show visitors, choose a simple message or a designed page.
    • Simple message: write a title and a message for each language. A language left blank shows the English text.
    • Designed page: pick a published page, or press Create & open in Studio, design it and publish it.
  3. Set the estimated downtime in minutes.
  4. Press Save.
  5. Press Preview to see what visitors will see.
  6. Switch Enable on. This switch saves immediately.

What you will see

Visitors get the maintenance screen with a "back soon" response. Anyone signed in to the admin panel still sees the real site. The customer portal, proposals, downloads and unsubscribe links keep working for everyone.

If something goes wrong

  • A designed page that is not published is ignored and the simple message is used. Only the page body is shown, with no header or footer.
  • Switch Enable off to end maintenance; it also saves immediately.
