The wording used across the panel and the site can be overridden here, with no code change.
An override replaces, it does not edit
Each text's original ships with the software and stays untouched. What you write is a layer over it. Removing your override (Restore) brings back the shipped text, never an empty one.
Three permissions
- View Translations to browse and open the coverage page.
- Edit Translations to save overrides and to ask for an AI draft.
- Restore Translations to delete an override. It is separate because it is destructive: someone who can only edit can save new values but cannot remove existing ones. The Admin role holds all three.
An update does not erase your override
Overrides are stored separately from the shipped text, so a new version of the software does not write over them. That is both the benefit and the risk: if the original wording improved in the new version, you still see your older one. Nothing flags an override whose original has since changed.
Keys are grouped by namespace
Every text has a key and belongs to a namespace saying which part of the product it comes from (admin, common, a plugin's own). Only a fixed list of namespaces can be overridden; a text outside that list cannot be edited here. Search matches the key, the English wording and the namespace, but not the translated text. To find a phrase you see in another language, search for the English wording it comes from. Texts that are grouped in nested sub-categories cannot be edited here.
Placeholders are not checked
Some texts contain placeholders such as {name} or {{count}}, filled in with a real value when displayed. Nothing checks that your translation keeps them. Remove or change one and users see the placeholder itself instead of the value. Translate only the words around it. The AI draft is told to keep placeholders, but check it.
A change may take up to a minute to show everywhere
Texts are held in memory for speed. A save clears the cache of the process that handled it at once, and other running copies of the site refresh within about a minute.
This page is for the panel's wording, not the site's content
Translating the pages, posts, products, courses, forms and calendars of your site is done in each item's own editor, in its Languages tab or Translate button, not here. Two pages here serve all of it: the AI Translation Glossary (terms the AI must leave as written) and AI Translation Review (AI text nobody has approved yet). Both open from buttons in the key browser's header.
