How do I delete and restore a page?

Move a page to Trash, bring it back, or delete it permanently.

You will have taken a page off the site, or brought a deleted one back.

Before you start

Trash and restore need the delete permission; permanent deletion needs the purge permission. The homepage cannot be deleted.

Steps

Move to Trash (also the way to take a page offline)

  1. On Content → Pages, press Delete on the row and confirm "Move page to Trash?". Or tick several rows and use Delete Selected.

Restore

  1. Open the Trash tab and press Restore on the page.

Delete permanently

  1. In the Trash tab press Delete permanently and confirm.

What you will see

"Page moved to Trash." The page and its child pages stop being served and its address is freed. After restore, "Page restored."

If something goes wrong

  • There is no unpublish, so Trash is the only way to take a published page down in the screens.
  • Restore fails if another page took the address meanwhile; if the old parent is gone, the page goes under the nearest surviving ancestor.
  • Permanent delete cannot be undone, hands child pages to the page's parent, and removes its versions. There is no bulk permanent delete.
  • Buttons show even without the permission; you get an error when you press them.
