How do I add an item?

You will have an item you can receive and track stock for.

Before you start

You need permission to manage inventory. Set up Units in Inventory Settings if the unit you need is missing.

Steps

1. Open Inventory → Items and press New Item.
2. Enter the Item Name. Leave the SKU empty to have one generated, or type your own (it cannot be changed later).
3. Choose the Unit of Measure, and set Reorder Point and Reorder Qty if you want reorder suggestions.
4. Enter the Cost and, if you buy from one supplier, the Default Supplier.
5. Press save.

What you will see

"Item created", then the item page, showing no stock. Opening stock arrives by receiving a purchase order, a manual inbound or an adjustment.

If something goes wrong

• "An item with this SKU already exists."
• Leaving Reorder Point empty saves 0, so the Default Reorder Point from settings is not applied from this form.
• The Cost field does not change the value of stock you already hold.
• An item that has ever had a stock movement can never be deleted.
