How do I show a different picture in each language?

Give an image its own file for one language, for example a banner that has words in it.

You will have a picture that is replaced by another file in one language, and unchanged in the others.

Before you start

  • You need the Translate CMS Content permission or permission to write content, and the picture must already be in the media library.
  • This works for the Image element and the Info card picture. Other pictures are the same in every language.

Steps

  1. Open the page's translation editor (Pages list → Translate) and choose the language.
  2. Find the picture in the list. It shows two boxes: Original, and this language's file.
  3. Press Choose a file and pick the media.
  4. Press Save draft, then Publish.

What you will see

Visitors in that language see the new file. Where no file was chosen, the row reads Uses the original. Clear puts a language back on the original.

If something goes wrong

  • If someone replaces the original picture later, the language's file keeps showing and is marked Original changed, so you can check that it still fits.
  • Only a file from your site or a normal web address is accepted; anything else is refused.
  • Pictures set as backgrounds in styles are not translatable.
