How do I translate with AI and review the result?

Let the AI draft a language, fix what it got wrong, mark it reviewed and publish.

You will have a language drafted by the AI, checked by a person, and ready to be indexed by search engines.

Before you start

  • You need the translate permission for what you translate (Translate CMS Content for pages and posts) and a plan that includes AI translation.
  • Add your brand and product names to the AI Glossary first so the AI leaves them alone (see "How do I keep brand names untranslated?").
  • Save your changes: Translate with AI is disabled while there are unsaved edits ("Save your changes first").

Steps

  1. Open the page's translation editor (Pages list → Translate) and choose the language. For a blog post open the post and use its Languages card.
  2. Press Translate with AI. It translates the texts that have no translation yet and the AI texts whose original changed. A person's text is never replaced.
  3. Read the message: "n text(s) translated with AI", "Nothing left to translate in this language", or "n text(s) could not be translated safely and were left empty".
  4. Check each text. A text from the AI is labelled Machine translation. Editing it makes it a person's text.
  5. When you are happy with the language, press Mark AI text reviewed.
  6. Press Publish.

What you will see

The AI's work lands in the language's draft; nothing goes live until you publish. After you mark it reviewed the labels read Machine translation, reviewed.

Until it is reviewed, a visitor can read the language, but search engines are told to leave it out: the page is noindex, not in the language links and not in the sitemap. After review it is listed like any other translation. (A site can turn this hold-back off with Index machine translations under Site Settings → Language & Format.)

If something goes wrong

  • "This is too much text for one AI run": translate fewer items at a time.
  • "The daily limit for AI translation has been reached": try again tomorrow.
  • "AI translation is not available on this site": the AI connection or plan is missing.
  • Texts the AI could not translate safely (for example it dropped a number or a tag) are left empty and counted in the message. Translate them by hand.
  • Everything waiting for review across the site is listed under AI Translation Review.
