How do I stop dealing with a customer without deleting them?

Deactivate the customer, because deleting is permanent and is refused while other records reference them.

You will have set a customer aside while keeping their history.

Before you start

You need permission to write customers (deactivate) or to delete them (delete). Customers have no Trash.

Steps

  1. Open CRM → Customers and find the customer.
  2. Press Deactivate on their row (or on the profile).
  3. To bring them back later, press Activate.

What you will see

The customer's status shows inactive and the history stays: invoices, orders, tickets and bookings are untouched. The portal status on the profile is separate.

If you tried to delete

Delete is permanent. It is refused with "other records reference them" while invoices, orders, tickets, subscriptions or wishlist items point at the customer. That is the system protecting your history; deactivate instead.

If something goes wrong

  • Deactivating is not the same as suspending the portal account; check the Portal access card.
  • A deleted customer cannot be restored. Data-protection erasure anonymises the record in place rather than removing it.
