Brands

One brand per product, the brand page and filter, what deleting does, and converting categories or an attribute into brands.

Brands

Each brand has a Name, a Slug (unique; Persian names make working Persian slugs), a Logo and a plain-text Description. The list shows the logo, name, slug and how many products use it, not counting the Trash. The search box above it filters by name or slug as you type.

A product has one brand or none. Set it in the product editor's Brand box, below Tags, where + Add Brand creates one without leaving the page; or for many products at once with Set brand in the products list. Brands are flat: there are no parent brands.

On the storefront

  • The brand page is /store/brand/slug, with the logo and description above its products. A brand with no published product is kept out of search engines. Changing a brand's slug redirects the old address.
  • The store sidebar has a Brands filter, shown when a brand in the listing has products. Turn it off with Show brands filter in Store Settings → Storefront Sidebar Filters.
  • The product page shows the brand above the SKU, linked to the brand page, and a Brand row in the specifications. Product cards show it next to the category when Products Grid → Show brand is on.
  • The Page Builder has a Brands widget (a grid or carousel of logos), and the Products widget can filter by brand. Menus can link to a brand page.
  • Google Merchant feed items carry the brand and the product's barcode (GTIN).

Deleting

Deleting a brand takes it off its products and changes nothing else about them. Brands have no Trash.

Convert to brands

Many stores, especially ones coming from WooCommerce, keep their brands as categories ("Laptops > Lenovo") or as a "Brand" attribute. Convert to brands moves them into the brand field:

  1. Choose Categories (only ones without sub-categories) or An attribute (each value a product uses becomes a brand).
  2. Preview lists the brands to create or reuse, how many products get one, and what is skipped. Nothing is saved yet.
  3. Choose what happens after. For categories: keep them as they are, take the converted products out of them, or delete them, in which case each category page redirects to its brand page. For an attribute: optionally remove it from the converted products.
  4. Convert.

Each brand takes the category's or value's name, slug, image and description. A brand that already has that slug is reused.

A product is skipped, never guessed, when it already has a different brand, sits in two of the chosen categories, or has two values of the attribute. The preview lists them. Fix them by hand and run the conversion again: it reuses its brands and does not repeat what is done. When deleting, a category with a skipped product is kept. A product whose only category is taken away goes to Uncategorized.

An attribute used for variations cannot be converted. A Page Builder products section that filters by a converted category shows nothing once its products leave the category, so switch it to the brand filter. Menu links to a deleted category keep working through the redirect. Deleting categories needs a plan that includes deleting catalog items.
