How do I adjust stock after a count?

Record the difference between the count and the system as an adjustment with a reason.

You will have corrected the system to match what is on the shelf, with a permanent record of why.

Before you start

You need permission to manage inventory, and access to the warehouse. Work out the difference: counted minus the system's On Hand.

Steps

  1. Open the item and press Adjust Stock.
  2. Choose the Warehouse.
  3. Enter the Delta: positive to add stock, negative to remove it (for example -3).
  4. Write the Reason (for example "Count 17 Oct, 3 damaged") and save.

What you will see

"Stock adjusted successfully." A new movement appears in the item's list. A positive delta adds a cost layer at the item's Cost; a negative delta removes stock using FIFO or LIFO and records the average cost removed.

If something goes wrong

  • "Insufficient cost layers available for this operation." means you tried to remove more than the cost layers hold, including in a warehouse where the item has no stock.
  • The check ignores reserved stock, so available can drop below zero; check reservations first.
  • Manual adjustments post nothing to accounting.
  • To record stock found with your own unit cost, use the warehouse's Inbound dialog with Correction instead.
