You will have store orders reserving and shipping stock from this item.
Before you start
You need permission to manage inventory and the store product. The item must have received stock in at least one warehouse.
Steps
- Open the item (or New Item) and tick Link to a store product, then pick the product. The name fills in.
- Save the item.
- Open the product in Store → Products, go to Inventory, and set Stock source to "Inventory plugin" (save the product first if it is new).
- Receive stock on the item through a purchase order or an inbound.
For a variable product, setting the stock source also creates an item per variation by itself, so you may not need step 1.
What you will see
When an order is paid, the stock is reserved in the warehouse with the most available; when it is shipped, it is taken at cost; cancelling releases it.
If something goes wrong
- Linking in the item form alone does not move the product's stock source; do step 3.
- An item with no stock record anywhere is skipped silently, with no error: the order still goes through.
- One order line is never split between warehouses; if no single warehouse covers it, nothing is reserved.
- The store may show stock summed across all warehouses.
