Inventory

How do I transfer stock between warehouses?

Move a quantity from one warehouse to another, keeping its cost.

You will have stock moved from one warehouse to another, with a record on both sides.

Before you start

You need permission to manage inventory and access to both warehouses.

Steps

  1. Open the item and press Transfer Stock.
  2. Choose From Warehouse and To Warehouse (they must differ).
  3. Enter the Qty, a positive whole number, and save.

What you will see

"Stock transferred successfully." A Transfer Out movement appears at the source and a Transfer In at the destination. The moved stock becomes one new cost layer at the destination, at the average cost of what left, dated now.

If something goes wrong

  • "Insufficient cost layers available for this operation." means the source does not hold that much.
  • A transfer ignores reserved stock, so it can take stock that orders have reserved.
  • Because the new layer is dated now, FIFO treats the moved stock as newly received, and the original purchase-order link is lost for it.
  • Nothing is posted to accounting.
