Invoices

How do I split an invoice into instalments?

Create a payment schedule whose amounts add up exactly to the invoice total.

You will have a schedule of dated amounts on the invoice.

Before you start

You need permission to edit invoices, and the invoice total must be final: a saved plan is not rechecked if the total changes later.

Steps

  1. Open the invoice and find Installment Plan.
  2. Press Add Installment (or Edit to change an existing plan).
  3. For each row give a Due Date, an Amount and, optionally, a title.
  4. Watch Installments Total: it must equal the invoice total.
  5. Press Save.

What you will see

Each instalment shows Paid, Pending or Overdue and what remains. These are worked out on display from the payments.

If something goes wrong

  • Save stays disabled, or the message says amounts must add up, until the sum equals the total exactly.
  • When recording payments, choose the instalment under Allocate to Installment. Once any payment is allocated, the plan is locked.
  • A saved plan cannot be emptied, only changed.
  • An online payment by the customer settles the whole balance and is not tied to one instalment.
