How do I add a custom domain?

Add a hostname the site answers on, and make it the primary one if it should be the main address.

You will have added a hostname so the site is served on it, and, if you choose, made it the primary address.

Before you start

You need the Manage domains and credentials permission. Point the domain's DNS at your site first; your service provider can tell you how.

Steps

  1. Open Site Settings and choose Domains.
  2. Add the hostname, for example example.com.
  3. Tick primary if this should become the main address. The old primary is demoted.
  4. Save, then check that the hostname shows as active in the list.

What you will see

The hostname appears in the list. If it is the primary one, Visit Site now opens it. A domain without www is accepted with www too, and the other way round.

If something goes wrong

  • A hostname is saved in lower case, without a port, and must contain a dot (or be localhost).
  • Adding the same hostname twice is refused.
  • The primary domain cannot be removed or deactivated; make another one primary first. An inactive domain cannot become primary.
  • If customers sign in with Google, register the new domain's redirect address in your Google app too: see How do I let customers sign in with Google?
